Can’t activate Pro Tools Subscription

Reposting this here because I got no response in music computers/daw/protools

Avid, unbelievable that I have to come to Gearslutz to figure this problem out. So I just updated my computer to Catalina and purchased a subscription to Pro Tools, coming from a perpetual license from a few years ago.

The software is not showing up in the My Products section of my Avid account. I can go to their download center and download it, but since it's not showing up in My Products, I can't see the license, or serial number, or System ID, and don't see how to activate it anyway.

I called customer support, but their automated message says they are not taking calls about licensing and activation right now and referred me to the support option on the Avid site. I can't create a support ticket because you need to enter a system ID

It appears I was supposed to get an email with an activation code? Never got one.. checked my junk folder also. got the email that showed they charged me for the product though.

So here I am, stuck. Anyone know what to do??

Did you purchase through a vendor ? If so do a e-mail search under that vendor, and look around the time you purchased it.

Sorry I just seen this. "email that showed they charged me for the product though."
That should show proof, if you can get a hold of someone.

Had you done any hardware upgrades, I'd done a couple, CPU, and HardDrive on one of my PC's and it showed as an different system, it was with Waves though. And caused problems.

Pro tools is ilok so it doesn’t matter what the system is.

There might be an authorisation code that he needs to register to be able to use the software - possibly a code that needs to be registered with ilok? I don’t know, I’ve never had to buy PT outright.

I’d be willing to bet it’s hidden somewhere in the receipts or website - if you have a download link in your account.

When you (OP) bought the software, did you have to enter an ilok account? If so the license will be in your ilok account - you might need to transfer it to an ilok or the ilok cloud?

If none of that - try finding avid employees on linked in and asking them there perhaps? Can sometimes get the wheel rolling.

Also worth starting a thread on the DUC?

Hey I wasn't sure how Avid does things nowadays, I purchased, Pro Tools 9 and virtual instruments (Box Set with code and iLok key, new back then because you could use it with other interfaces.

I would talk to your dealer perhaps you purchased a renewal instead of a new subscription. b/c that sounds like exactly what is going on

Thanks for the replies everyone.. haven’t solved the problem yet. So, I purchased through the actual Avid website, so there is no other vender than them to appeal to. I did update my ilok info on my Avid account but that didn’t result in any authorization being sent to my ilok account.. no new authorizations to claim in there. No new hardware installations either.

Not that this would help, but could you rollback your OS. And also does your account show a system ID?

If you have Pro Tools installed on your Mac, we strongly caution against upgrading macOS without first gaining approval from your degree program and checking the Pro Tools Compatibility Chart.

Before upgrading MacOS:

Check your degree program's page on Full Sail One. Check for any information on upgrading macOS.
If you do not see any info on Full Sail One, check with your instructor and/or your degree's Program Director to see if the latest macOS version has been approved for your degree.
Check the Pro Tools Compatibility Chart to find out if your Pro Tools will run on the latest macOS.
Consider other apps on your Mac that could potentially have problems with the latest macOS. You can check with the developer or research sites such as RoaringApps to find out whether they are compatible.

Did you have Mojave installed? You maybe able to rollback and use Time Machine backup.
Just trying to help.

Thanks Rick. I actually have my old system on a separate hard drive, so I can boot that as well as boot the new Catalina install instead. Thank God, cause if that wasn't the case, I would not be open for business right now. That doesn't help me get any closer to seeing my system ID or getting them to send me an activation email though does it? The only place I know of to see your system ID is on your Avid account.

That's good you have your old system, I wonder if that old one will show your ID? That or maybe you can locate the license on it and copy it over. who knows!

If someone knows a way to find your Pro Tools system ID other than inside your Avid account please let me know!

By the way, I’ve filled out the contact form TWICE on the avid website and have heard nothing back. Great customer service guys!!

Looks like everybodys had this problem, and have been emailing RalphC.
As for the ID, surely he can help. You have proof of purchase . Looks like a pretty screwed setup they have.

Dont know if this is of any use. I know it's Media Composer, but it shows "Offline" activation

"if you select that option then yes. otherwise you can always do a .bin file and activate without the internet.
